Here are some random thoughts for all to comment on:
Small spotlights. I think it would be really neat to have some small recessed spotlights in our new Lodge room. These could be used to make the Master Mason's Degree that more dramatic. I think the East, West, and South chairs should be so equipped, as well as a small light be aimed straight down and illuminate the altar. Also, possibly a light aimed near the West Gate would be nice.
I really like our handmade altar, but it's too big for our small Lodge room. I think it would be possible to have about 1/4 to 1/3 taken out of the center portion and still look nice. Also, someone has suggested we attach the three lesser lights to the altar, which would save some more room.
Our ritual mentions the checkered floor - I think it would be really neat to have that motif somewhere in the Lodge room. I'm not suggesting we do the entire floor like this, but possibly a four foot-wide section between the East and the altar????
Does everyone like the color of the current carpet? Should it change color, and if so, to what?
What are your thoughts?

I very much like the above ideas, but remove the carpet.
My thoughts:
Whatever we do, it should be planned in detail this fall and completed before we reoccupy the lodge room.
We should expose and refinish the heart pine floor, and put down an area rug near the alter where candidates pray. Each station can be carpeted, but I'd stay away from blue b/c it shows all dirt/lint.
either expose the walls by removing panelling and paint them, or paint the panelling a light color. The ceiling should have a tray ceiling [much like the room in Istanbul] to accommodate indirect lighting, then install spotlights at the alter, in front of the senior warden where candidates pray or are taught to advance, over the master, senior and junior wardens, and near at the west gate where candidates stop and the acacia without root is buried. there also should be crown molding around the room (this can be made from composite material which, when painted, looks like wood).
the alter should have a hinged top so the jewels can be stored in it, should have electric tapers installed on its top or on overhangs and should be half its current size. jon shelton's mother could do this rework.
electric outlets should be installed at the master's station and on walls next to secy and treasurer. computers and other electronic stuff is coming to the lodges of the future.
the ceiling, or part of it, should be painted dark blue with stars painted with florescent paint, and black lights in the recessed areas should light up the stars. the old painted ceiling light shade should be reinstalled near the alter.
we should consider reworking the stairs. they are too steep and narrow. it might take the space of the robing room to create a less steep slope.
